Easy Homemade Paprika

If you’ve never tried making your own spices, this Easy Homemade Paprika is the perfect place to start. Store-bought paprika often sits on shelves for months, losing its flavor and bright red hue. By drying and grinding fresh peppers at home, you capture their peak sweetness and punchy aroma. It’s a simple, rewarding process that will instantly elevate your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

  • 10 Sweet red bell peppers (or Kapia variety)

Equipment

  • Dehydrator
  • Spice grinder or powerful blender

Method

  1. Wash the peppers and dry them completely. Remove stems, seeds, and white inner ribs. Slice into thin strips
  2. In a dehydrator: arrange strips in a single layer on trays. Dry at 50–55°C (120–130°F) for 12–18 hours.
  3. Let the dried peppers cool completely to room temperature. Transfer them in small batches into a spice grinder. Grind until a fine powder forms.
  4. Sift the powder through a fine-mesh sieve to remove large bits. Pour into a clean, bone-dry glass jar with a tight lid. Keep in a dark, cool, and dry pantry.
